Women's Career Clothing Closet

THE PURPOSE OF THE WOMENS'S CAREER CLOTHING CLOSET (WCCC) IS TO PROVIDE THE CLOTHING AND ACCESSORIES NEEDED FOR WOMEN TO SECURE AND MAINTAIN EMPLOYMENT OF THEIR CHOOSING

The Women's Career Clothing Closet, founded in response to community need in 1998, offers a variety of clothing, shoes and accessories to women who are working, seeking employment or participating in a job training program leading to employment. And, like all of Christian Help's programs, this service comes at absolutely NO COST to our clients. Customers are referred to us from regional employers, workforce development agencies, vocational training programs and educational institutions, as well as friends, family and co-workers. And once they are here, we find the solutions that work best for them.

During the first year, the Women's Closet served a mere 88 women. By 2009, however more than 1,200 women made visits to the closets. In 2001, the Hazel Ruby McQuain Memorial Foundations funded various renovations, which resulted in a comfortable boutique-style atmosphere, with one-on-one customer-staff interaction. The United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties has provided money for staffing and programmatic costs since 2003, and The Morgantown Community Trust has support this venture with grants for the past 3 years. The Dominion Foundation, AmeriCorps VISTA, the Suncrest Kiwanis Club and the Newcomers Club are other long-term supporters.

Most recently, Christian Help partnered with the National Council on Aging and BB&T to give both the Working Men's Closet, and the Women's Career Clothing Closet, a real facelift. Complete with a fresh coat of paint, as well as new computers and software, and cubicles to give our clients the bit of privacy they require to write their cover letters, resumes and applications, Christian Help truly houses a one-of-a-kind program. Together, staff and volunteers from organizations throughout the area are working to provide the unemployed persons of West Virginia a friendly and helpful atmosphere, as they search for the job that will work for them.

The WCC is a one-stop partner with WV Job Services.
